Don’t just bring your

friends & family...

...bring your apples too!

As always, at the heart of the Apple Day is our apple crusher, where we welcome you to bring along your own apples for pressing and even learn how to make your own cider.

Also, don’t forget to bring suitable containers to collect and take home all that wonderful juice.

Not sure what apples you have? Challenge our apple

experts who will be on hand on the day to identify the variety.

From orchard to glass

Once the apples are crushed, they are placed into a press and this is where some elbow grease really comes in handy! But it’s not all about brute force, however, as the optimum pressure range for juice extraction is actually between 70 to 90 psi.

All our apples are either harvested from local orchards by our volunteers or brought along by attendees on the day. The apples are then washed before the powerful crusher makes light work of breaking them down into smaller pieces.

All the fresh lovely juice is then collected, ready to be sampled and enjoyed straight from the press or taken home to be enjoyed later. But if you do manage to resist drinking it all right away, it can be processed into cider or even vinegar!

But don't worry, nothing is wasted in the process as even the leftover pulp and apple skin goes to good use feeding the livestock of a local farmer.

Because of the generous and ongoing support of our events, we have not only been able to reinvest the surplus funds made back into the community, but also invest in quality equipment like our apple crusher. The crusher, along with our other items, including the BBQ and marquees, are all available for use by local organisations at no charge.

If you would like to learn more about how we support the local community or are a local group who would like to borrow a piece of equipment, please visit our Community Support page.
